Lia’s Story
My health and fitness journey began more than 24 years ago, and it’s been a long path of learning, persistence, and discovery.
Growing up, I was far from athletic. My family wasn’t particularly active, and like many people, I spent years dieting and believing I simply wasn’t “one of the athletic ones.” Exercise felt like something you did to control weight—not something to enjoy.
That perspective began to change in my early adulthood after moving to Calgary, a city surrounded by outdoor adventure. Through friends—and eventually my husband—I was introduced to skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and the gym. At first I struggled with almost everything. But with encouragement, practice, and a willingness to keep trying, I slowly became stronger and more confident.
What started as occasional activity gradually turned into a lifestyle. Running became a major part of my journey, eventually leading me to complete eleven marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2010. Along the way, I discovered the importance of strength training, recovery, and proper nutrition.
Over time, fitness stopped being about burning calories or chasing a certain body type. It became about feeling strong, capable, and energized. The small wins—learning a new skill, finishing a race, lifting heavier weights—built confidence that carried into every area of life.
Today, more than two decades later, health and fitness remain an important part of my life. My focus has expanded beyond exercise to include nutrition, longevity, and nourishing my body and family with whole, nutrient-dense foods.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: transformation doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from small steps, consistency, and the belief that change is always possible.
And truly—if I can do it, so can you.
